![]() It is not a competition and the developers of each of the projects (as well as many other Free Software graphics projects such as Inkscape, Scribus, Blender, etc) collaborate and provide encouragement and assistance for each others' projects. The relationship of GIMP to Krita is exhibitive of the very best that Free Software has to offer. It took me 6 months to figure out photoshop 7 when I was 15/16 He's doing ok now but not everyone is as lucky as him :D. For one friend I gave approximately 40 hours one on one tutorials on using Gimp as well as my university documentation on Photoshop to borrow (I find they are similar enough to be beneficial to each other). For my girlfriend I installed gpaint on her computer. I think GIMP needs an easy mode and advanced mode GUI, I was using photoshop before GIMP and had to use PS while at uni as at the time GIMP wasn't good enough so it's easy enough for me but my girlfriend and friends and family who I have encouraged to use FOSS software and Ubuntu in particular find GIMP to be one of those programs that is too hard, they find Photoshop too hard too of course, the problem being GIMP is too advanced for default image editor on Ubuntu. ![]() If QT koffice for KDE4 is as good as eric is with QT4 and has the same power as GIMP it would be one of those apps which would make KDE 4 more appealing to a person like me who despite liking KDE, prefers Gnome for use. I have been trying out kde4 for the last week or two and feel it is really not ready for use in terms of stability and features compared to KDE 3.5 or Gnome. ![]() It is one I do plan on trying but was under the impression 2.0 was comming out (koffice 2.0 or something) and isn't in ubuntu repos yet. I have no reason to bother with krita yet. ![]()
